🎯 Game Objective

Be the first player to reach the opposite side of the board!

You'll start at one end and race to reach the other end before your opponent.

1Game Setup

The game begins with both players on opposite sides of a 9x9 board:

Each player starts with:

  • 1 pawn (represented by your icon 🐯)
  • 10 walls to place during the game
  • A timer for timed games

Your pawn starts in the middle of your starting edge, and your goal is to reach any square on the opposite edge.

2How to Move Your Pawn

Moving is a two-step process:

  1. Click on your pawn icon to enter "move mode"
  2. Click on a blue dot to move to that square

When you click your pawn:

  • Blue dots appear showing all legal moves
  • Your icon starts flashing/pulsing
  • You are now in "move mode"

Basic movement rules:

  • Move one square horizontally or vertically (not diagonally)
  • You cannot move through walls
  • You cannot occupy the same square as your opponent

⚠️ Important: If you change your mind while in move mode, click your pawn icon again to cancel. You cannot place walls while in move mode!

3How to Place Walls

To place a wall:

  1. Make sure you're NOT in move mode (your icon shouldn't be flashing)
  2. Hover your mouse between squares where you want to place a wall
  3. Click to place the wall permanently

Wall placement rules:

  • Each wall covers exactly 2 squares in length
  • Walls can be placed horizontally or vertically
  • Once placed, walls cannot be moved or removed
  • You have a limited number of walls (usually 10)

When you hover over the board, you'll see a preview of where the wall will be placed (shown in a light color). Click to confirm the placement.

⚠️ Golden Rule: You can NEVER completely block your opponent! There must always be at least one path for each player to reach their goal.

4Special Movement Rules

Jumping over your opponent:

When your pawn is directly adjacent to your opponent's pawn:

  • If there's no wall behind them, you can jump over them to the next square
  • If there's a wall behind them, you can move diagonally to either side

5Strategy Tips

💡 Pro Tips:

  • Balance offense and defense: Don't use all your walls too early!
  • Create long detours: Force your opponent to take longer paths
  • Keep escape routes: Always ensure you have a path to victory
  • Watch the wall count: Know how many walls each player has left

6Game Controls

Additional game options:

  • Offer Draw: Propose to end the game in a tie
  • Resign: Forfeit the game if you're in an unwinnable position
  • Timer: Shows remaining time in timed games

🏆 Winning the Game

The first player to move their pawn to any square on the opposite edge wins!

Remember: You don't need to reach a specific square - any square on your opponent's starting edge counts as a victory.
